The Spring Mill Café literally transports you into another place and time. From its quaint 1830's farmhouse to its beautiful rustic French cuisine you will feel like you are in France the day after Bastille Day. Chef Michele Haines opened this venerated gem in 1978, which was a daring concept at the time. Originally from the Loire Valley of France, she has been creating honest and authentic French cuisine in this very same restaurant for 40 years!
She and her son Ezra have created a custom 6 course dinner for us which draws heavily on the Loire and her roots. Since it will be July, the cuisine will be appropriate to the hot weather. And as you know, in France the local wines pair with their indigenous cuisine perfectly and your dinner committee found no fewer than five exciting Loire wines to match this night's offerings. We have already sampled the menu and it will be wonderful.
Here is an outline of our menu with wine pairings:
Hors d'oeuvre
Cremant de Loire Rose
Corn Vichyssoise
Pascal Jolivet Pouilly Fume 2016
Pork Rillettes with Sliced Baguette, Cornichons, Whole Grain Mustard
Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rouge La Croix du Roy 2013
Poisson de Rivière au Beurre Blanc
Champalou Vouvray 2016
Salade de Tomates, Vouvray vinaigrette
Goat Cheeses of the Loire Valley
Michel Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens Controllee 2003
Tarte Tatin
Peche Imperiale Sparkling Vouvray Demi Sec
Come join us and dine on perfect summer cuisine, and maybe learn a thing or two about wines from the Loire, it is still a lesser known region of France but the wines are quite compelling. There is plenty of parking in the restaurant's lot, and if the weather is nice we will start outdoors!
